Global Serve Teams--Sophia Shelby

Sophia Shelby (Bolivia--Six Months Deployment)
Sophia Shelby
Seeking to raise $16,000.
Sophia will be serving in a Safe House in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
I started studying Spanish when I was thirteen, and ever since I knew God had gifted me with the talent of learning and loving languages and cultures. Since the age of 12 I had decided I would be a missionary, so it made sense that God would equip me with good gifts to serve his kingdom.
I have always been involved in ministry. The first 17 years of my life I was a pastor’s kid, and I served in many areas of my church. As I got older, my out-of-church ministry grew from local activities to serving in Chicago, two trips to Guatemala (the third has been postponed due to COVID), and recently to Greece with International Sports Federation (ISF). I even spearheaded a benefit for organizations in Guatemala my senior year because I was so eager to live there, but I couldn’t yet, so I did the second best thing I could think of in order to live “on mission”!  I also serve at my church in youth and Spanish ministry.
I work hard with my three areas of study, as well as tutor Spanish at my university, volunteering, and will be graduating in December. My goals are to be a D.O. to do Medical Missions. I am hoping in my gap year before medical school to be immersed in Spanish to increase my fluency and live in the culture I have grown to love.
Sophia will be serving alongside Global Serve Teams, Lifesong for Orphans and ISF.
